Homemade Turmeric Milk Recipe
Learn how to make this soothing turmeric milk recipe with homemade almond milk and pressed turmeric, ginger, cardamom, and cinnamon juice.
Turmeric Milk, a Warm Spiced Classic
If you are in the mood for a warm, comforting beverage, turn to warm, spiced turmeric milk.
Known as haldi doodh or golden milk, turmeric milk is a traditional beverage from India that has been enjoyed for centuries and passed down through the generations. It’s clear to see its appeal: the turmeric root, which is turmeric milk’s main ingredient, is a staple of Indian cooking and is often used in Ayurvedic tradition.
The turmeric root can be ground into a powder or pressed into a juice and added to milk, along with other spices like ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom. This concoction is a traditional favorite, enjoyed for its warming flavor.
A Traditional Favorite
In India, warm turmeric milk is a traditional comfort drink, often enjoyed on cold evenings. Turmeric contains curcumin, the compound that gives it its golden color.
Turmeric Milk and Beauty Traditions
Traditionally, turmeric milk has been given to brides-to-be to brighten their complexions.

Time-Saver Turmeric Milk Recipe
For a quick and easy way to make turmeric milk, all you need to do is buy ground turmeric and mix it with spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger before adding it to warmed milk.
But for the most nutritious (and delicious!) version of this magical beverage, consider using your juicer to press homemade turmeric juice.
Turmeric Milk Recipe for the Juicer
At PURE, we like to start with a base of almond milk, which is easy to make in the juicer, but of course you can use any milk you like: almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, or cow’s milk will all taste delicious with turmeric.

Turmeric Almond Milk Recipe
Almond Milk Ingredients
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 2-3 cups filtered water
- 2 dates
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Turmeric Juice Ingredients
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/8 cup to 1/4 cup fresh turmeric
- 2-3 sticks cinnamon
- 1/4 cup cardamom
- 1/4 cup ginger
Yield: 16oz
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Directions:
We recommend starting with the almond milk. See full recipe here.
- Soak almonds in water, a ratio of 1:3, for a minimum of 4 hours up to a max of 48 hours.
- Drain excess water and add a 2:1 ratio of fresh water.
- Grind the almonds with a blender. Pour the almonds and water into your blender pitcher and turn on high speed until the almonds are crushed.
- Store milk in fridge.
Next, make the turmeric juice:
- Chop turmeric and ginger into manageable sizes.
- Grind all spices together in the PURE Juicer, using a #2 grid.
- Wrap spices in a PURE press cloth, put your pitcher of milk below the press plate, and press the turmeric juice directly into the milk.
Pro tip: Make turmeric juice and freeze into cubes. When you’re in the mood for some golden milk, pop a couple cubes in a mug of warm milk, and you’ll be ready to go!
A Note About Spices
These spices are full-bodied, so flavor your milk according to taste. You may choose to add more or less turmeric juice, depending on your mood. If you make your turmeric milk in one big batch and don’t drink it all in one day, be aware that these spices will mellow out after a day in the fridge.
Golden Milk for Bedtime–or Anytime
When is the best time to drink turmeric milk? Honestly, you can drink turmeric milk cold or warmed, at any time of the day. Though, it must be said tradition has it (and we can confirm!) that drinking it warm, right before bed, is a comforting way to end the day.
